about

At the start of 2020, the Quon was taking taking a well-deserved break from music. Everything to be said was said on All That Remains. But 2020 didn't go according to plan. Instead, the Quon was stuck at his kitchen table. Daily anxieties of living in a quarantine found their way into song. What started as a single or two to bridge releases, became both a full-length project and a 10-song EP (18 Months).

Nothing about the writing, recording, and mastering process was normal. Most songs written in the fever-dream of early lockdown sat unrecorded but well-practiced. Guest verses were recorded on cellphones and laptops. Studio time itself was accompanied by masks, generous hand sanitizer, and alcohol-wiped surfaces. The first round of recording came to an abrupt end with the premature and unexpected death of long-time producer Ferior.

Without access to those sessions, the album restarted from scratch with recording not starting again until May 2021 with the Quon's other, longtime producer Kendall P. Despite the heaviness of the times, 2021's songs are notably lighter and show an increased willingness to embrace new song-writing instincts. Songs like Freedom and Comfortable wouldn't be out of place on a Mac Miller album and are the most upbeat of the Quon's catalogue. Sunshine could serve as a personal mission statement. Without a doubt, The Long Haul is the most pop oriented and least political of the Quon's career.

Like always, the Quon has recruited lyrical heavyweights with those featured including Oldman AD, Ajay Oso, Kendall P, Simon Sed, and vocalist Erika Brett. The Long Haul was entirely recorded, mixed, mastered, and produced by Kendall P Beats.
