The second of two 2023 projects from the Quon. This album was written nearly simultaneously with Confidence / Doubt, but the mix of songs just didn't feel ready for prime time. Instead, they've been substantially re-worked, and extensively practiced.

"Take the W" came from a conversation. Despite (exactly) 20 years as an artist, self-doubt creeps in whenever releasing something to the public. Going back to that time period and that state of mind writing a verse like on "My Own Way", Quon was reflecting on the difficulty of pushing through and continuing to grow as an artist. His friend interrupted him, saying "People keep playing your music. Enough people like it. Who cares why. Take the W"

And perhaps, that's the best reading. It's never going to be perfect. There will always be a better take than what appears. There will always be a verse in need of a better turn of phrase. There will always be something for someone to nitpick over.

Sonically, "Take the W" is low-fi affair infused with lush jazzy beats. Lyrically, Quon ruminates on a bit of everything: appreciation for his wife, antisemitism, close brushes with death, and whether twenty years and countless hours of music making have worth the effort. Take the W is the emergence as a storyteller not shying away from turning the lens onto himself and his family.

Take the W features production from Kendall, helming his fifth project for the Quon. Featured collaborations include ABDULLAH, Ajay Oso, Danny Barz, Kendall P, Holy Ghost and Blvecasso.

This album also includes a Bandcamp exclusive redo using a new beat for a solo song off Confidence / Doubt.
